Breakfast at the
Viktualienmarkt.

The market is set up in the early hours of the morning, the sun peeps over the rooftops and Munich wakes up. The market traders place their goods in front of the market stalls and fresh produce is delivered. You can watch this hustle and bustle and treat yourself to a breakfast – whether it’s a fresh croissant or Bavarian veal sausage and pretzels.

Ultimately, you have to decide whether you want to have breakfast directly at the market or in one of the numerous cafés in the neighbouring houses or alleyways.

Cafés around the Viktualienmarkt

Rischart at Viktualienmarkt – Café am Markt

The café of Munich baker Rischart is located directly on the market square. Rischart has numerous cafés in Munich, but the most beautiful terrace is at the Viktualienmarkt. Especially in summer, you can enjoy a marvellous view of the market here. There are many delicious baked goods here and you can also get typical specialities such as Munich veal sausage.

Schmalznudel – Café Frischhut

Even among Munich locals, the Schmalznudel – Café Frischhut is something special. You can already see them in the shop window, the freshly pulled out noodles and Striezerl sizzling in the hot fat. To take away or to eat in – there are also other delicacies here – the Schmalznudel is definitely part of a visit to Munich’s Viktualienmarkt.

Frühstücken auf dem Viktualienmarkt

Café Nymphenburg Sekt

Breakfast in the middle of the market at Café Nymphenburg Sekt offers you this pleasure, whether with freshly squeezed juice or a glass of sparkling wine, the choice is yours. Depending on your taste, you can order a croissant or muesli – or enjoy a breakfast menu!

Biergarten

Bring your own snacks or buy them at the Viktualienmarkt – such as cheese from the Tölzer Kasladen or if you want something particularly savoury, you can find a wide variety of sausages in the Metzgerzeile. You can get drinks in the beer garden and start a summer’s day in a cosy atmosphere at the Viktualienmarkt. However, the beer garden doesn’t open quite so early and the opening times can vary slightly depending on the season.

Of course, numerous market stalls offer freshly prepared sandwiches, which you can savour while strolling through the market.
