Markthallen München is responsible for the Munich Viktualienmarkt. Markthallen München is a municipal enterprise of the City of Munich and is responsible for the operation of the wholesale market and the abattoir, as well as the four permanent food markets and more than 40 weekly and farmers’ markets in the city of Munich.

The four permanent food markets in Munich include the central Viktualienmarkt, of course, but also the three markets in the districts of Pasing, Schwabing and Haidhausen. The Viktualienmarkt is the largest and best known, but the district markets are also appreciated and loved by the people of Munich. The Pasing Viktualienmarkt is located in the inner courtyard of the Pasing train station and offers a wide variety of bread, cheese, fish, meat, fruit and vegetables. In the middle of Schwabing is the Elisabethmarkt, which will be completely rebuilt between 2021 and 2024, and behind the Maximilianeum is the Wiener Platz market. Though smaller, it complements the small hostel buildings and the Hofbräukeller in the background.

Fresh produce is also available at the more than 40 weekly and farmers’ markets that are held regularly throughout the city. 120 vendors travel to fixed locations and have been selling a wide variety of foods for 40 years.
